Me and my husband went to visit a local furniture museum today. The museum is located in a simple but beautiful mansion built in 1790 (or a few years earlier). The courtyard is very charming. I've often walked there as my parents live nearby and I've lived my whole childhood there, but it was my first visit to the museum. The museum visit was a good enough excuse for me to put on the mourning gown and see how it looks with the wig or the cap. This is my first wig and it was an agony to style, synthetic hair and curlers don't go together well, but it's nice to have one. I'm forever grateful to Jen (http://festiveattyre.blogspot.com) for sharing where she got her fabulous wigs so I could have the courage to buy one too. Dressing up takes so much less time.

And it's always awesome when you can photograph your costumes in a period setting, isn't it? That room looks really lovely (as does your dress of course)!
In the future if you're trying to make a synthetic wig take a curl, one tip I learned years ago in the theater is to use sponge curlers (the squishy ones you can sleep in over night) and just hit it with a touch of steam. You'll see the curls almost tighten, it's hard to explain, and it doesn't take much. But you're kind of re-shaping the plastic. It works wonders! It actually goes both ways you can straighten a curly wig with steam as well. Just don't use tooooo much or you end up with a mess. Just a bit makes a huge difference.
And thank you so much for the tips too. I bought a wig also in my own hair color, so I need to face the agony of styling a wig soon again. I'm sure it will go easier if I try the steaming.
The wig is nice too, it suits you. :-)
Your cap is beautiful too, but the wig is WOW! :) Well done as always!
We are fortunate enough to have nice museums around here, but I have to confess of being very envious of Swedish and French people. They seem to have all the best places. :)
Lovely photos, thank you so much for sharing!
If you are looking for ready made caps, I know that Mrs Hallie Larkin offers beautiful caps.
