CoCo dress rehearsal

So, as I didn't make any new dresses for Costume College this year, I had to dig deep in to my costume closet to find things to wear. It had been years since I last wore some of the dresses I'm bringing with me, so I thought it would be a good idea to try them on before packing to see if the fit is still ok and there's no visible damage. And it had been many months since I had properly worn a corset for longer than few minuted so I thought it would be good practice for that too. And, as I was at it, I tried out some hairstyles too. So that resulted in some photos.

I wish I could wear the polonaise down. I haven't found the perfect way how to drape the back. If someone wants to arrange it for me while we are there, you are welcome.

Both bodices are so pretty. Are you wearing that to the gala? If so, evening bodice is my vote. Otherwise, if it is to be worn during the day, day bodice. I'm afraid I'm not very creative in my votes this evening. ;-)

Thank you! It would be for the ice cream social, so long sleeves it is.

Oh *swoon*!!! The new pictures are all so pretty! What a fun afternoon adventure. It makes me want to get dressed up while the temperatures are unusually cool this week and take some new pics myself.

I still think I like the sleeved Tissot bodice a little bit better, but they are both so pretty - you can't go wrong with either one!

Thank you! It was so nice to get to try everything on before leaving instead of rushing to get a new gala gown and wish for the best for the rest.

And we NEED photos of your incredible painted dress. It's been on my mind now since I wrote the post about our March adventures.

You look lovely!

Thank you!

You look so beautiful! That 1874 dress has to be one of my favorites that you’ve made. It's so exactly like the spirit of the original. For years I stared at that sketchy little line drawing in Janet Arnold, and you just brought it to life.

For the Tissot dress, I like the day bodice better, but have to agree the evening bodice seems more appropriate for the gala.

I have to tell you that I haven't really been sad about missing costume college until just this moment. Seeing you get all dressed up to try everything and looking all gorgeous... I wish I was going to be there with you!

Thank you! I wish you were here too!

And I think that V&A dress might be my favorite of what I've made so far. It's not perfect, but it has always been my dream dress and it's fun to finally have it. Sharp and feminine at the same time.

And Tissot will be for ice cream social so long sleeves it is.

Everything looks so beautiful! You'll have such a good time. I vote that you wear the evening bodice as much as possible because it'll probably be HOT there.

Thank you! It was already so hot trying these on in Finland so I'm sure I'm going to be disgustingly sweaty at CoCo. :D

Soooooo beautiful! All of them! All of you!

Thank you!

They're all so gorgeous! I really love that first bustle gown, especially. I forget which one you planned to wear for the gala, but if it's the Tissot, then I would agree about the evening bodice. If it's for the Ice Cream Social, though (I thought I remembered you saying you were wearing it then?), then I think I prefer the day bodice.

Thank you! :) It'll be for ICS so longer sleeves it is.

It looks like they still fit. I love the Tissot dress particularly.

I've been oogling your blog forever, but just wanted to comment and say 'evening bodice'! It's so very beautiful.

I'm stunned by the level of detail you go into, but it's so worthwhile because your dresses are exquisite - I stumbled across your blog somehow and went off on an internet-wide search and I didn't find anyone else whose work I admired as much.

I think your Tissot dress, the 1660s dress and the Toulmouche dress are my very favourites.

Re: Wow!
Thank you so much! You are too kind.

I think you have chosen my three favorite of your dresses to bring.

They are some of my own favorites of my own dresses too. :)

All of the dresses are so beautiful and the pictures really do them justice! I especially like the third photo, very lovely. As with your sewing skills, I'm in awe of your hairstyling abilities. Would you sometimes write a post with a little more detailed pictures of your hair and how you did it? I think I'm not the only one who'd be interested in seeing what goes into them! I really find historical hairstyles frustrating and currently the late Victorian dos are giving me grief so it'd be great to have some expert tips :)

Thank you! I feel like an absolute amateur with hairstyling, but if you are interested, I could write a post someday. :)

Hi! :)
I love every dress you make and your blog(s) are a real eye-candy too :) You're more than talanted in sewing these dresses! But there's something that bothers me: the hat in the bustle dress looks like it could fall down within minutes! For more period correcty put it upon the top of your head (knot) or pull it down into your forehead. Also the hair-do with the two plait is very "girly" don't do it if you're over 18 or married (as I can remember you are :) ) Have a nice weekend at CoCo :)

Re: Hi! :)
Hi Melinda! Yes, I know the hat is at an funny angle. It's hard to put it on by yourself sometimes, but it is what it is in these photos. :)

And I also know I was stretching the rules a bit with the hair since plaits were generally a little girl thing. But I saw this women's plate "new styles for dressing the hair" with plaits, loved the look and gave it a try regardless. https://www.flickr.com/photos/festiveattyre/7962121920/in/set-72157631479892922/lightbox/

Thank you, I'm sure I will.

Stunning and perfect. I LOVE looking at your work so much!

That top blue dress is still one of my favorites. I want one!

Oh, so so lovely! All of it! I'm so glad you're rewearing things because all of these are too amazing to only be worn once!

Hi there! Longtime lurker who finally got up the nerve to comment and say that your costumes are so flawless! Early bustle is one of my first loves, and you do it such justice with your creations.

And a side note, the hood on your polonaise gives me so much joy! :) How fun.
